Summary
Menarini was established in 1886 to be precise in a small laboratory of the Farmacia Internazionale (International Pharmacy) of Naples. In 1915 it transferred to Florence. In 1976, activity in the Diagnostics Division was added to the existing ethical drug production and in 1994 the OTC Division was started. Menarini Biotech is able to follow the creation of a biotechnological drug from the early stages of research, through to the pilot scale and up to industrial production. The division focuses on areas such as coronary infarction and antitumour vaccines). The strategic areas of A. Menarini Diagnostics are Diabetes (self testing & laboratory systems), Clinical Chemistry (dry, wet and urinalysis), Haematology (blood typing, ESR, cell counting) and Immunology (immunohistochemistry, autoimmunity, immunometric assays).
R&D
The company's research programmes address mainly cardiovascular diseases; oncology; pain, inflammation and asthma, with the study of receptor antagonists. The research activities of the Menarini Group are carried out through Menarini Ricerche, which deals with all R&D activities, from the creation of new projects up to the drug registration. The company's product line is as follows: home glucose testing, continuous glucose
monitoring, urinalysis, haemoglobin analyser, wet chemistry, dry chemistry, immuno-histochemistry and immunology.
Menarini's home glucose testing products include: GLUCOCARD MEMORY 2, GLUCOCARD MEMORY PC, GLUCOMEN GLYCO', GLUCOMEN PC, DIALOGUE SOFTWARE and GLUCOCARD G meter.
