Generation of a Transgenic Mouse Model of Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration

Generation of a Transgenic Mouse Model of Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration

Full description

Introduction/Background

Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) is clinically associated with atrophy in the frontal lobe and temporal lobe of the brain.

Aims/Hypothesis

There is a need for an animal model to study FTLD.

Research

This invention relates to the generation of mice with overexpression of TAR DNA binding protein (TDP) in the forebrain, including the hippocampus, cortex and striatum. We have found that this kind of mice exhibited the impaired cognition and motor performances. We expect the animal model would be suitable for studying FTLD and may lead to development of new/better therapeutic approaches/agents in the future.

Conclusion

We have developed the only animal model of frontotemporal lobar degeneration.
