Development of a Simple Method for the Self-Diagnosis of Cancer Cells

Development of a Simple Method for the Self-Diagnosis of Cancer Cells

Full description

Introduction/Background

Different G-quadruplex structures for the human telomeric sequence d(T(2)AG(3))(4) in vitro have been documented in the presence of sodium and potassium. Verification of the G-quadruplex structures in human telomeres in vivo is the main issue in establishing the biological function of the G-quadruplex structures in telomeres as well as the development of anticancer agents.

Aims/Hypothesis

There is a need for a simple cell-based test for the diagnosis of cancer.

Research

We invented a simple cell-based device for self-diagnosis of cancer cells. The advantages of this screen method are simple, rapid, extremely economic, efficient, and possibly for early detection of cancer cells. It is available and affordable to all families for regular screen or patient follow-up. 3,6-Bis(1-methyl-4-vinylpyridinium)carbazole diiodide (BMVC) molecule in cancer cells from normal cells allowed us to establish a simple and economic method for the diagnosis of cancer cells. We also have established an extremely economic method to detect limited number of cancer cells by using a light emitting diode as an excitation light and a conventional colour camera as a detector with tow optical filters.

The cost of the device including a conventional camera would be only USD $200-300. This low cost and accessible technique allowed us to bring hospital device to home for self-screening cancer cells regularly. In addition, quantitative measurement of the cancer cells may be useful for early detection of cancer cells. This method set an important basis for the development of novel assays for the early diagnosis and the patient follow-up.

Conclusion

We have described a very simple and rapid methodology in pre-screening cancer cells.
